Museum Experience and Interactive Data Art
The Galaxy of Taste
An interactive museum installation built from food-system data, recipes, edible species, and AI-generated imagery.
Context
The Galaxy of Taste: From the Biosphere to the Plate was created for the Alimentarium in Vevey. The work builds on the museum's research into edible biodiversity and culinary cultures, translating food-system data into an interactive visual environment.
System
The installation lets visitors explore more than 1,200 edible species, over 600 dishes from twelve culinary regions, and the ingredients that connect them. The interface is organised as a three-part digital environment: a dynamic central sphere, a tree of edible life, and a large collection of AI-generated images.
Visitors navigate the material with a 3D controller, moving between recipes, organisms, ecosystems, and visual clusters in real time.
Technical Notes
The installation combines data visualization, interface design, real-time systems, and AI image generation. The source structure includes hundreds of recipes, hundreds of ingredients, and tens of thousands of links between food, biodiversity, and culture.
